Enter text or hexadecimal data, then choose an algorithm. HMAC also needs a key.
Hash text or hexadecimal data
Generate a digest, or use HMAC with a shared secret to generate and check an authentication code.
- Enter text, or enable hexadecimal input for bytes written as hex pairs.
- Choose an algorithm. HMAC options also require a secret key.
- Generate the result and copy the digest, or use the HMAC verification controls to compare an expected value.
SHA-256 of a small piece of text
Enter abc with no spaces or newline and select SHA-256. This is the expected hexadecimal digest; even a trailing newline changes it.
Input:
abc
SHA-256:

What to know before you start
Available algorithms include SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA3-224/256/384/512, SHA-1, MD5, and RIPEMD-160. HMAC supports SHA-256, SHA-512, and SHA-1.
MD5 and SHA-1 are legacy options with known security weaknesses. A plain hash is not encryption or a suitable password-storage scheme.
Inputs and HMAC keys are processed in your browser. The input here is text or hexadecimal data, rather than a file upload.
